The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

“The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award affords an opportunity for students to shine in a non-traditional classroom setting. Education beyond the school walls can be just as rich, and for some students, a richer experience than what is typically available in the classroom. Community service, physical activity, learning a new skill and being challenged with an outdoor expedition are all part of a well-rounded education and it’s wonderful that the Duke of Ed program recognizes the importance of these pursuits.”-Tom Stevens, Director of Admissions.

This segment of The Humans of RSGC highlights the Duke of Ed program. The program encourages personal development and facilitates a sense of community. The expeditions have a similar purpose; RSGC’s 2016 Bronze Duke of Ed expedition amicably joined participants (of different ages). The experience allowed participants to surpass their comfort zone and further their abilities. The resultant skills and independence will surely be handy in present and later life.
