By Denis Miller

Music is an expressive and impactful art form. While some songs are solely lighthearted and catchy, others are powerful.  1-800-273-8255 (the number of the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline) is a song written by rapper Bobby Tarantino or “Logic,” featuring singers Alessia Cara and Khalid. The meaningful lyrics highlight suicide and mental health, emphasizing to listeners that hope and support can provide clarity, guidance, and deliverance.

Humbled by the public’s positive response to his song, the rapper tweeted:

Over the years so many of you guys have told me that my music has helped you through so many tough times…it’s even saved your life. I’m beyond humbled. But I felt I haven’t done enough. I made this song for all of you who are in a dark place and can’t seem to find the light.”

John Draper, Director of The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, reported to CNN that the hotline received its second-highest volume of calls on the day of the song’s release. Draper also lauded Logic’s interpretation of suicide prevention awareness.

Presently, mental health, mental illness, and suicide continue to be paramount subjects; thus, it is important to become a part of the conversation.
